Turkey’s Digital City Application
The project was initiated by the T.R. Ministry of Environment and Urbanization for the digitalization of all city centers in 3D has been completed. The T.R. Minister of Environment and Urban Planning Murat Kurum said that with the “3-Dimensional Topography and Building Model Structuring in Urban Settlement and Development Areas” project, digital twins of all cities had been established so that measures could be taken against disasters and structures that did not qualify for the reconstruction reconciliation could be identified. The Minister said, “Within the scope of the project, the photographing of 12 million housing units in an area of 40 thousand square kilometers has been completed and transferred to digital media. Thus, a 3D digital twin has been created for every city. The project that we have accomplished for the first time in the world will enable switching over to 5G technology as well.
The fact that Turkey succeeded in achieving the 3-dimensional digital conversion of all the urban centers in Turkey before Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and Singapore generated high acclaim on a global scale. The study will enable the establishment of the number of buildings in cities according to the existing floor space and a precise number of buildings in a given city center.”
